Difference In Positions
Here are two screenshots of the front cover for my magazine. I'm showing the difference between how the bar code looks being horizontal and vertical and why I've made the decision to make it a certain way. I prefer the bar code being vertical as it uses more space and and shows the price clearly. The horizontal bar code takes attention away from the pull quote and intervenes more with the main image on the cover. The vertical bar code links in with my flat plan and provisional front cover as I drew them with the bar codes in different directions. Overall my decision stuck to it being vertical as my target audience agreed that it looked better that way.
These are all the different positions and wordings that I thought of for the pull quote. The original pull quote was 'this is all I've ever wanted', I felt as though this was too long and didn't draw in a reader. It looked weird on the main image and after playing around with different layouts of how it could look, I decided it was too long and I need something short and snappy. The next pull quote I thought of was 'My dream's come true', again this didn't feel like it would draw in readers and after asking people who answered my questionnaire what they thought, they said it didn't intrigue them. I then thought of 'I finally made it' but this didn't look right on the artist and I wanted a shorter pull quote. From that I got 'I made it', to me it pulled in readers and was quite effective in wanting readers to read more of the magazine, there was a lot of unanswered questions that could come out of the pull quote such as: how did they make it?, what are they going to do now? and did they overcome any struggles whilst trying to make it?
