Question 5 - How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?
Make your own mind maps with Mindomo.
Incase the mindomo doesn't work, here are the print screens of what is in the mindmap.
Stages Of My DPS
These are the stages that I have taken to produce my double page spread. I started off by putting the name of the artist on the page first so that I could work around it. As it was the biggest text on the page it had to be the first step so I could know how small to make the images and the interview. I then added my first image so that I knew where to place the text. I added a description of the artist to introduce the readers to the artist: Anita Diaz. I then added my final image so that I could establish a layout for my double page spread. Where the images are placed, it was easier for me to know where to place the interview. I then added all the text on the page and it was able to be read easily as the layout was clear. I added a pull quote of the artist and put it above the artists head so it would be obvious to readers that it's coming from the artist. I tried putting the name of the magazine on the page but it made the page look overcrowded and it then looked like too much colour was on it.

Double Page Spread Comparison To My Flatplan
I have made several major changes from my flat plan that I originally visioned my double page spread looking like. I wanted three images all in different shot types to represent her being handed her crown as she is the 'Queen of hip-hop'. The first shot would've been a long shot with the crown being hand, second shot would've been a medium shot with her holding the crown above her head showing the fans that she finally has it and the third shot would've been her with the crown on her head. I wanted the page split so that those three images could fit and then the actual interview would go on the right. I wanted the name of the magazine at the corner of my magazine but it looked too crowded. I wanted the pull quote to be in graffiti font but I felt as though the graffiti made the magazine seem for boys and the target audience is for mainly girls and teenagers 16-18 years old.
My actual double page spread looks different than how I wanted it to. I only have two images; I stuck with having the crown handed to her but the second image shows off her jewelry. I have the pull quote in the font that I used on my contents page and front cover and I allowed more space for the interview to take place. The colour scheme from the flat plan has differed as my original colour scheme of blue and red did not go well together.

Double Page Spread Final
This is my double page spread final. The biggest image I chose was to show the crown being handed to her. The crown was representative of the fact that she was the 'queen of hip-hop'. She is staring directly at the camera to engage with readers. Her hand is on her chest as she's feeling honoured, her gold jewelery is still being shown which displays the hip-hop genre. The quote that I used on the double page spread says 'I refuse to conform to that industry', out of all the things said in the interview, I found that this was most effective as it's showing readers she stays true to who she is, it also shows how the music industry could be shown. I made sure the pull quote was above the image so it was clear to readers that the artist was the one saying it. I have kept with the same colour scheme throughout my magazine and it is evident here. I have always kept the titles in the burgundy colour as I think it draws more attention to the page as it's bold and bright. The gold are used to show the interviewer asking the question and the responses are in black so that readers can tell the difference between the question and the reply. I made a little introduction as from my research into looking at double page spreads, most appear to introduce the artist before they start the interview, I mainly saw this in hip-hop magazines so I took inspiration from that. In the interview I have highlighted the genre and spoke about artists from that genre. The artist name is the biggest text on the page which is effective into drawing readers to see who she is. It is clear who the artist is.

Contents Page Comparison
My contents page flat plan is to the left and my actual contents page is on the right. The layout has changed drastically. The colour scheme changed from a blue 'contents' to it being burgundy which is the colour of my masthead on my front cover. I have added another section, on my flat plan I only had features and fashion but I added exclusives to make the main artist interview stand out. How I wanted my model to look has kept the same as I wanted someone with curly hair and a jacket which is what she has. I have added a border on the top of my contents page and added the masthead into the header border. On the flat plan I had just plain black writing but in my contents page I have added gold colour to make the subheadings stand out. I moved the image more down as having the image up left a lot of space on the page and it didn't look right.
Contents Page Final
This is my final contents page after I have made all my changes. The colour scheme links in with my front cover as I have kept with black, white, burgundy and gold. I have included the magazines name onto my contents page and a date at the bottom to show when the issue of the magazine is. The features are linked to all the texts that were on the front cover. I have made features mainly to do with music and made a fashion section just to add more to the magazine. I wanted to make the magazine appeal to my target audience so I wrote about things that would be what teenagers read about. The Hip-Hop genre is evident on my contents page as I have my artist wearing gold jewelry and I have mentioned Hip-Hop related things in the features. I stuck with the idea to make 'contents' abstract as I thought it would look boring just being in a straight line. I have it going around the models head so that more space was given to write the features and still look edgy which is the feel I wanted for my overall magazine.
Contents Page Alignment
In these images I am showing that I have drawn a line to make sure everything on my contents page is aligned with everything. On the first image I have made sure all the features were in a straight line so that it didn't look messy and that the layout was simple and easy to read. On the last image, I aligned the date of the magazine with the s from the longest line under my fashion feature. Having everything aligned made my contents page look more presentable.
Contents Page Final Layout
The left image is my final layout choice for my contents page. The right image is how my contents page looked before I changed the layout. I felt the layout on the right looked to squashed to the bottom and hard to read whereas the layout on the left is clear to read and and very simple. I have added a header border to include social media websites where readers can find out more stories. As teenagers are my target audience and they mainly use social networking sites, I thought it would be useful to include this on my contents page as it would be easy to access stories from the magazine as they are constantly on the internet or on their phones. I have included the magazine masthead in the header border so that readers know that it's from the same magazine. Also the title 'contents' on the right image took up to much space on the page which left little space for me to change any of the texts, I knew I had to decrease the size of the title to make more space for my features. I put the date on the bottom of the magazine so that readers can establish all these stories are new.

Contents Page Features
These are the features that I have chosen to put on my contents page. I have split them up into three different sections one being the features that would appear near the front of the magazine, the exclusives are the main interviews to deal with the artists of the magazine. Anita Diaz is the main artist on my front cover so her interview is highlighted by being put under exclusives so readers know only this magazine will have her interview. The descriptions of the subheadings highlight music and shows how it's a music magazine. The genre of the music is illustrated in the beginning sentence for Anita Diaz's interview. I wanted the features to relate to the music magazine genre and I wanted the genre to be noticeable to readers. The last section is fashion which links in to Hip-Hop as it's talking about Hip-Hop fashion. The features that are on this contents page are linked to my front cover as I have put them in here and put descriptions of it so readers can get an idea of what to expect in the magazine.
